Questions About Endurance BioBarrier

Is your Mold Prevention Spray toxic?

No. Our water-based formula does not include any harsh chemicals. No bleach. No triclosan. And no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). In fact, it was certified as non-toxic by the leading toxicologist at the Duke University School of Medicine. So it’s perfectly safe for people, pets, plants and the environment.  Our Cleaner Prep is also non-toxic.

How long will your Mold Prevention Spray remain effective on various surfaces?

On high traffic surfaces in bathrooms and kitchens, one application of our Mold Prevention Spray will last up to six months. On exposed indoor and outdoor surfaces such as walls, ceilings, window frames, eaves, gutters, and siding, one application will last up to two years. On enclosed surfaces such as attics, crawl spaces, and stud cavities, one application will last up to 25 years. We guarantee it.

On what indoor surfaces can I apply Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention?

Our Mold Prevention Spray will protect any indoor surface. It will inhibit the growth of mold, mildew and germs on tile, grout, drywall, plastic, wallpaper, metal, glass, wood, upholstery, carpets and more. Apply it in bathrooms, kitchens, closets, basements, attics, crawl spaces, and anywhere else you can think of. It also stops and prevents musty odors.

Does your product protect outdoor surfaces against mold and mildew? What about outdoor surfaces exposed to bad weather?

Our Mold Prevention product works great on outdoor surfaces, including surfaces exposed to winter, spring, summer or fall bad weather. Why? Because our formula is specifically designed to last through hundreds of wet-dry cycles in all temperatures.

Works great on roofing materials, gutters, vinyl siding, metal, wood, brick, stone, glass, plastic, painted surfaces, stucco, concrete, fiberglass, patio furniture upholstery, canvas awnings, you name it.

When applying EBB in a large room/area using a hand pump sprayer or fogger, how can I tell whether all surfaces have been coated?

Remember that you only need to lightly mist all surfaces with our Mold Prevention Spray. That’s one reason why it covers double the surface area of top competitors. If you overspray, gently wipe up excess product that may form into pools. To ensure whether you properly coated all target surfaces, shine a UV black light on those surfaces. If they glow, then they’re properly coated. Let it air dry. It then invisibly protects for significantly longer than competitors.

How does your BioDoor Dual Layer Technology help EBB last longer than all competitors?

When applied, our Mold Prevention Spray’s unique formula creates a microscopic, clear coating on the target surface. Think of it as a dual layer coating, with top layer consisting of a high-tech polymer that binds the underlying layer of biocides to the surface. This prevents the biocides from being easily rinsed away. As a result, it is able to prevent mold and germ growth through hundreds of wet-dry cycles. Competitive products get diluted or are rinsed away the first time they are exposed to water or condensation.

Do I need to clean away the mold before applying your Mold Prevention Spray?

For best results, we recommend first removing mold, dirt, grease and grime using our Cleaner Prep or any non-bleach product. This will maximize the adhesion of our Mold Prevention spray on target surfaces, thus ensuring the longest lasting protection you can get against mold, mildew and germs.

After applying the mold preventative product, if the surface gets dirty at a later date, can I clean it without effecting the microscopic dual layer protection?

If you can simply rinse away the dirt without harsh scrubbing or using a cleaning product, then our Mold Prevention will remain on the surface providing invisible protection against mold and germs. If you must use a cleaning product, we recommend gently using a pH neutral (pH 7.0) cleaner since these cleaners are less likely to remove our Mold Prevention product. However, if you harshly scrub the surface or use a caustic cleaning product, then you will need to re-apply Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention.

Can I apply your mold preventer to a damp surface?

Yes. One of the unique benefits offered by our Mold Prevention is that it can be applied to damp surfaces. This is a big time saver. You don’t need to wait for surfaces to dry after cleaning or repairing. Just lightly spray it on and let it air dry for about an hour. And you’re done!

What kind of commercial or institutional applications are appropriate for your EBB Mold Inhibitor?

Our Mold Prevention Spray can be applied in any large scale application where there is a concern about musty odors or the regrowth of mold, mildew or germs. Locker rooms, health clubs, apartment buildings, cruise ships, airplane cabins, restaurants, schools, daycare centers, hotel rooms, medical facilities, laundromats, storage rooms, “sick” office buildings, the list goes on and on.

Months or years after applying your Mold Prevention Spray, how can I tell if it is still on the surface providing protection against mold?

Our Mold Prevention Spray has a unique feature. It glows if you shine a UV black light on it. So this would be the fastest and easiest way to see if our EBB Mold Prevention product is still hard at work on your target surface.

Please note that if you apply our Mold Prevention Spray to a surface that later gets exposed to a constant, long-term water leak problem or frequent harsh abrasion, then you will need to re-apply it sooner rather than later. Use the UV black light test to help determine when to re-apply.

Can I use EBB Mold Prevention as an anti-bacterial spray to prevent germs from growing?

Yes. Our Mold Prevention product contains a proprietary blend of EPA registered antimicrobial biocides that eliminate 99.9% of all microbes. Therefore, it provides long-lasting protection against germs, too. So feel free to spray it on any surface where you want to protect your family against germs.

Remember, our Mold Prevention product will last through hundreds of wet-dry cycles. All other anti-bacterial sprays get rinsed away the first time they come into contact with moisture. As a result, EBB will protect your family against germs for significantly longer than other products. Spray it on faucet handles, doorknobs, counters, floors, bedspreads, furniture, even remote controls. Be creative. Be pro-active against germs.

Can I use your Mold Prevention product in a fog machine to treat an entire basement or home after a flood or water leak?

Yes. EBB Mold Prevention can be applied using a fogger. It’s a great way to ensure full coverage of large areas or entire rooms. Even if you don’t see visible mold growing soon after a water incident, it is there taking root. Be sure to take all the preventative steps discussed in our flooded basement mold prevention article. Highly rated sprayers and fog machines are available in our mold equipment store on this website.

However, in situations where there was a serious flood or water leak, you may want to consult with a professional mold remediation company. They can assess the extent of the damage and recommend the best course of action. Be sure to ask them to use Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention during the repair and restoration process. It’s the best mold inhibitor you can get!

Do I need to invest in expensive protective gear in order to apply your EBB Mold Prevention product?

Nope. Since both our Cleaner Prep and Mold Prevention products are non-toxic with zero VOCs, you don’t need expensive HAZMAT gear when applying.

However, if you are applying the Mold Prevention to large areas, then we do recommend that you use a simple dust mask and protective eyewear just to be safe. And if you have sensitive skin, you may want to use rubber gloves, too. Please note: If you are removing damaged moldy drywall or carpet, you should definitely wear protective gear. Find highly rated mold safety gear in our webstore.

What is the shelf life of your Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention product?

If the container closed, our products can be used and still be effective for up to two years. However, please do not store our Mold Prevention Spray in a place where it might freeze since that will cause the special dual layer formula to become ineffective.

Why does your Endurance BioBarrier mold inhibitor cost more than competitive mold removal products?

The good news is that despite having a higher retail price than other mold products, our Mold Prevention Spray covers more than double the surface area of top competitors. So on a cost per square foot basis, our product costs about the same as most competitors.

But there is even better news. Unlike competitive products that rinse away when first exposed to moisture, one application of our EBB mold and mildew inhibitor will protect against regrowth through hundreds of wet-dry cycles. As a result, you’re getting a much higher quality solution to your mold problem for about the same cost per square foot.

Are the active ingredients in your Mold Prevention Spray registered with the EPA?

Yes. The active ingredients in Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention include a proprietary blend of antimicrobial biocides that are EPA and TSCA registered to destroy 99.9% of pathogens. This blend is specifically formulated to eliminate mold, mildew and germs within 48 hours. No triclosan. No bleach. Non-toxic. And no harmful fumes (zero VOCs).

Questions About Mold and Mold Health Issues

Where does mold come from?

Mold spores are always floating in the air both inside and outside of your home. When moisture is present on just about any surface, the mold spores in the air can take root on that surface and begin growing. As they grow, they actually digest the surface they are growing on. That’s what causes the damage.

Can mold cause health problems?

Most types of mold have no effect on healthy people. However, people with allergies or asthma may be sensitive to mold strains that to most people are harmless. Symptoms can include a skin rash, running nose, eye irritation, cough, nasal congestion, aggravation of asthma or difficulty breathing. People with a compromised immune system or with a lung disease may have an increased risk for infection from mold.

A small number of mold strains produce toxins called mycotoxins. Mycotoxins can effect even healthy people. When people are exposed to high levels of mold mycotoxins they may suffer toxic effects, including fatigue, nausea, headaches, and irritation to the lungs and eyes. If you or your family members have health problems that you suspect are caused by exposure to mold, you should consult with your physician and have the air quality in your home or office tested.

How long does it take for mold to grow?

A visible colony can be seen in as little as 24 hours. All it needs is a little moisture and just about any surface can act as a food source. All mold removal products, except for Endurance BioBarrier, are easily rinsed away. Therefore, if you use one of those products, the next time that surface is exposed to moisture, the product will no longer be able to prevent mold from regrowing.

Why does mold keep coming back after I clean it?

Mold is like an iceberg, what you see on the surface is small in comparison to what is under the surface out of sight. Most mold cleaners only remove the surface mold, not the roots. And even if a mold product does kill the roots, it is easily diluted or rinsed away the first time it is exposed to water or condensation. As a result, mold will soon regrow.

Of course, our Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention Spray is the exception. It eliminates mold roots and spores and protects against regrowth through hundreds of wet-dry cycles.

Which mold types are bad for people?

There are five categories of toxic mold: Stachybotrys, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Penicilium, and Aspergillus. Each of these mold families can be found indoors when moisture is present. Stachybotrys is the toxic black mold we have all heard about and the most deadly of the molds. Aspergillus is the least threatening and the illnesses it can cause are not fatal if treated.

Where does mold grow in homes?

Mold spores are always present in the air. Mold only needs moisture and it can grow on just about any surface. Mold is commonly found in bathrooms, kitchens, basements, laundry rooms, attics, and garages. But mold is also able to grow in places you never see, such as inside wall or ceiling cavities, behind tile or wallpaper, under carpet, etc.

Why is indoor mold so common today?

Modern buildings are more energy efficient, staying warmer longer in winter and cooler longer in summer because their construction is more airtight. Although energy efficiency helps to keep utility bills less expensive, it also traps moisture that used to escape, making mold a more common problem.

Can I still have a mold problem even though I can't see mold growing?

Yes. Mold will grow anywhere there is moisture, even on surfaces hidden from sight. For example, behind wallpaper, inside wall cavities, in crawl spaces, under roofing tiles, behind window frames, under carpets, and above ceiling tiles, to name just a few. If undetected and untreated, these hidden mold problems can cause damage to your home and your health.

If I have already fixed a water problem in my home, can I still develop a hidden mold problem?

Yes. If you’ve had a water damage incident, the odds of having a hidden mold problem greatly increases. Fixing the water problem and resulting damage does not mean you are safe from hidden mold problems. Don’t take that risk. Ask your repair contractor to use Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention Spray on all open/exposed as well as enclosed surfaces in the entire area or room that had the water problem.

We received a testimonial from a contractor who drilled holes in walls in order to mist EBB into stud cavities. He did follow-up air quality tests and found that the airborne mold spore concentration inside the house was actually less than outside the house. He and his client were thrilled.

How can I tell if I have a hidden mold problem?

The first indication that you may have a hidden mold problem is a musty odor. If you suspect a mold problem, have an indoor air quality test and evaluation done. Use one of the DIY kits listed in our online shop. Or hire a professional to do it for you. Don’t wait. The musty odors can cause allergic reactions or illness.

When should I hire a professional to clean up mold?

The EPA recommends hiring a mold removal expert if mold has infested an area larger than ten square feet. A professional should also be hired if the mold damage was caused by contaminated water or sewage, or if you have health issues such as a weakened immune system or asthma.

How should I choose a remediation company?

Search for local companies that have been in business for several years. See if any complaints have been filed against them with the Better Business Bureau, and check their certifications. It is very important that whichever company you choose has liability insurance that covers removal and safe handling of mold. Also, it is recommended to use a different company for mold inspection versus mold remediation to ensure honest quotes and results.

How can I prevent mold from growing?

Use our Endurance BioBarrier Mold Prevention Spray on any surface to prevent mold from growing. Many people are being pro-active and spraying it on both visible and enclosed surfaces even if there was no mold problem. In addition, it always helps to eliminate moisture problems. For example, use a dehumidifier to pull moisture out of the air after a water leak problem or in bathrooms that don’t have adequate ventilation.

Are there any health laws about mold?

There is no federal law regarding mold, but several states and cities have passed laws to create acceptable mold standards. California and Texas are among the few states with such laws; if you want more information about mold-related laws take a look at your state department of environmental protection.
